Cliff Joyce Memorial Tournament

The Cliff Joyce Memorial Tournament is awarded on the basis of the percentage of world record for bodyweight category.

In 2021, the first five placings were as follows:

1st: Joey McGechaen (Portside) -63.592%

2nd: Brendan Zinenko (Portside) -63.566%

3rd: Jordan Cripps (WAT) -58.621%

4th: Jack Saward (WAT) -58.503%

5th: Angie Arnold (Elite) -56.890%

 

First event at devonport

The staging of the Cliff Joyce Memorial Tournament at Portside Barbell Club, marked the first occasion in Weightlifting Tasmania's history that a statewide Olympic Weightlifting competition has been held in Devonport.

Weightlifting Tasmania would like to thank the owners and members of Portside Barbell Club for the use of their excellent venue and very great assistance in setting up and running the competition.

Many praises of the venue were received from visiting athletes, coaches and officials, and we look forward to future competitions at Portside Barbell.

Other Highlights

Of the 41 competitors, 20 went home with a personal best.

Most notable improvers were: Caden Harper (+23Kg), Chloe Harris (+15Kg), Emily Drysdale (+8Kg), Bianca Fitzpatrick, (+6Kg), Emily Hudson (+6Kg), Ky Wittich (+6Kg), Zac Fiddymont (+6Kg), Angie Arnold (+5Kg), Nicole Carrick (5Kg). 

Ky Wiittich achieved the qualification standard for the World Masters Championships in Japan 2022.
